Mitya Burmistrov is an artist based in Belgrade. He's the creator of three music projects (MITYA, Чёрный Государь, acid minerale) and an indie label named MITYA.
In the 2010s, Mitya gained internet fame as beatboxer Masta Mic, having the first Russian music YouTube channel to reach 50 million views. He performed at TED Talks in Canada, MoogFest in the USA, and the 2010 Olympics. He mentored at the IMI music residency program and was part of the OneBeat residency, currently working as a media staff member.
In 2016, Mitya directed the series "Echpochfank" and recorded an album in the villages of Tatarstan with Red Bull. Netflix acquired his song "1 Life Is Not Enough" for the series "Dear White People."
On September 20th, Mitya released his debut album "TUU," influenced by early 70s psychedelia, live dance rhythms, and the fluidity of sound. The album's creation was inspired by his trip to Altai, where he recorded ancient folk instruments, collaborated with shamans, learned throat singing, and even got engaged. This experience is documented in the "Altadelica" series (youtu.be/P93TO4UrnBw), released alongside the album as part of the project.
Mitya personally handled the mixing and recording of his entire album, but it also features contributions from a Kazan orchestra and musicians from Senegal, the USA, Turkey, and Tatarstan.
Mitya's DIY music videos are played on MTV and 2x2, and songs are played on American KEXP and KXLU radio stations.
